Made to be loud...

When making leos, one has to apply what we call the "40 foot rule", that is, how will it look from a distance?
This is something I've struggled with over the time I've been making leos.  Something that looks lovely and detailed while up close often simply does not show up on the competition floor, in that big space, against the mats or floor, in the lighting of the venue.  And also, what works in one venue will fall flat in another (Nationals vs the ZM series venue for example).
Sometimes, one has to just get on with it and make a loud leo, a really 'in yer face' one in colour and design.
So, here they are - my latest attempts at leos that yell "here I am" on the floor:

Worn at Akl Sec Schools aerobics, after which the small raspberry swooshes and the crystals were added.  It held its own in the large space that was the St Kentigern Sports Centre.
I don't like it, but Tamsin does, saying it was really comfy.

Made for National Secondary Schools, where Tink will compete both aerobics and trampoline (probably at the same time if the schedule is being nasty), so that she doesn't have to change leotards if there's no time (or desire) to.
I've been wanting to make a white with blue and pink leo for Tink for ages. With thanks to Angel Fabrics for the lovely white opal lycra.

Silver Sequins

It's the Counties RG competition tomorrow and this is the last of the leos I had on order to do ready for it:

For the very sweet Grace from Howick RG; size 8 with silver butt, silver mesh and silver sequins.
All the best for tomorrow, Grace!!

Two more

A dear friend has two young relatives who do roller skating and she wanted to give them something nice to compete in.  Unfortunately, I didn't get photos of the size 10 one, but it was a third take on the frangipani leo: black with 6 different coloured flowers with swarovski crystal centres and lime leaves.  I have been promised photos once the girls get their gifts :)
I did take some of the size 8, though:

Orchid pink velvet, sequins and crystals.

Flintstones in the Ice Age

I got to make a leo for another lovely Howick gymnast this past week.  Her music is from the movie Ice Age and she really, really liked Tamsin's L5 clubs leotard but it was too big for her.  So the leopard print stash got raided:

Size 8, with cosmojet and copper swarovski crystals.
Delivered today to a very happy gymnast, in time for the Counties competition.

Bouncing Back in Black

Tamsin stopped Rhythmic Gymnastics last July, and in term 4 started doing recreation Trampoline - just for something fun.
So today was her first ever trampoline competetion: the low key Auckland Secondary Schools, very nicely run by ASB College Sport.  And of course, there was a new leo (she needed a slightly bigger size, anyway), using one of her favourites out of the stash cupboard.

And guess what?
She came 5th!!
Women's B Grade (19 competitors)
Way to go, Tamsin!!!
